In San Benito, garden centers are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have more time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in Texas, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Many nurseries close or shorten hours in winter, so check the listing for current hours and Google rating before you go.

San Benito is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Getting around San Benito is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Texas's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Such a hidden gem of a nursery! I stopped by during lunch to grab my mom a plant for mother's day and left with a beautiful tree that was sprouting orange flowers. My mom loved it and that's all I care about. The staff was super kind as well!!

So glad I discovered this nursery on the way to the island. Country Farm is huge, with the best selection of trees, shrubs, flowers, etc of any that I've seen in the Valley and the prices are extremely affordable! You can easily get lost in the multiple greenhouses that Miss Ofelia lovingly cares for π

This place is a diamond in the ROUGH! I was completely caught off guard by this nursery because it is like the thrift store version of a nursery. It looks like I imagine a place would look after a major storm or small hurricane. There are random animals everywhere...dogs, cats, roosters, bunnies which might be off-putting to some, but it somehow seems to add even more character to the place (and my kids LOVE coming here as a result). So, if you can get past the disheveled-ness, muddy paths, and random animals, you will find treasures at AMAZING prices. Just to give you an example of what I'm talking about, a palm tree I had wanted to buy for quite some time was at $15 while it was $60 at one of their competitor's for the same size, BUT bring cash because that is the only form of payment accepted. The plants are very healthy and thriving and there are plenty of Texas native plants.
